Kia ora Your Official Information Act request, reference: GOV-028731 Thank you for your email below of 1 November 2023: New technology is being developed to reduce injuries resulting from accidents arising from the cleaning and washing of the exterior of all types and heights of buildings including residential, industrial typical CBD buildings. We have interpreted your email as asking for information about the injuries you have described, and we are providing our response under the Official information Act 1982 (the Act). Our response The claims data set available to ACC is largely reliant on the information a person provides on their ACC45 injury claim form. There is an accident description field on the form where a person can provide a brief description of how their accident happened. This field is not mandatory to complete and not every client does so. When the field is completed, there is a significant variance in the level and accuracy of detail provided which makes identifying the circumstances of injuries difficult. While we could conduct a free-text search of the accident description to identify claims in scope of your request, the number of terms which may be relevant is too broad. Likewise, we could search for claims filtering by occupation or classification unit, but these search methods also have significant limitations. Given the above, we are refusing your request as extracting the data would require us to manually read through individual claim files, requiring substantial collation and research. This decision has been made under section 18(f) of the Act. In doing so, we have considered extending the timeframe to respond or charging (as allowed under the Act). However, neither of these options have been offered as we have determined that providing this information would unreasonably interfere with the everyday functions of the teams involved. If you are not happy with this response You can contact the Ombudsman via info@ombudsman.parliament.nz or by phoning 0800 802 602. Information about how to make a complaint is available at www.ombudsman.parliament.nz. Ngā mihi Sara Freitag Acting Manager Official Information Act Services Government Engagement
