New Zealand Fire Service Localities GIS Data

To the New Zealand Fire Service, I would like to access the Localities GIS data from your agency. I would like this data in gis format if that is possible. My particular area of interest is Auckland. I note that another person has recently requested and been granted access to this. I am a doctoral student in the School of Architecture and Planning at the University of Auckland and wish to correlate this information with other categorisations and with census data for one of my case study areas. Please let me know if you require any further information. Regards, Emma

A lack of any consistent (and publicly available) definitions of suburbs in TLA areas where the TLA has not gazetted these.

Providing a standard or baseline for comparison.

Response from
New Zealand Fire Service Commission

Preparing data for release

The New Zealand Fire Service Commission is part of a consortium of agencies which some years ago developed a national suburb and localities dataset (NZ Localities) to provide support for enhanced Emergency Response, postal addressing and property information. The consortium, which includes QVNZ, NZ Post, LINZ, and representatives from territorial local authorities, meet regularly to provide updates and maintenance of the NZ localities dataset. The consortium works closely with territorial local authorities to agree changes and maintenance of the Suburb boundary definitions and naming conventions. The NZ Localities dataset is available under license at no cost. To complete the license agreement and receive the data, please contact dsi-support@fire.org.nz.
