MP voting records API

An API (XML and/or JSON) of which MPs have voted yes/no/abstained at each reading of each bill. Information is currently available in Hansard but this is not machine-readable. The API should be updated as close to real-time as possible - eg when the debates are put online.

Providing transparency of MPs' voting records, enabling better engagement with MPs on legislation of interest.

Allowing websites to automatically track voting records without having to manually trawl through Hansards to extract data by hand.

The implementation of this request is still being explored. The underlying data sources and systems that support them are complex and integrated, and subject to future change. Therefore the implementation needs to be considered carefully and aligned with other developments to ensure any solution remains viable into the future.
Please be assured that this request is being taken into consideration.

Such an inclusion should be a relatively simple addition.

Wheretheystand.co.nz has automated it purely through regular expressions, recognising party/MP names and text in Hansard that identifies text.

Parliament should have a far easier job of doing this since it can be tagged as the Hansard is recorded in the same way you tag speakers.
