I would like records of the type of crime, location, time, suburb, area for use for a studying crime patterns in New Zealand for a Post graduate project with Massey University where we are creating a web application to view this data and see patterns visually. Csv format, shapefile format (if the data has specific locations of where each crime happened. eg. latitude, longitude. or closest landmark. I apologise for adding pressure but we also would need this data as soon as possible to begin working on the map application that is due end of may.
It is for a Post graduate project with Massey University where we are creating a web application to view this data and see patterns visually. It would be useful in seeing how crimes can be related to location.
It would be a very useful tool in looking at how to reduce crime in areas by type/location etc.

Thank you for your request dated 7 October 2024. You requested:
"Kia ora, hope all is well I would appreciate the data for my final university assignment studying the crime rates and location in New Zealand".
In the Official Police Statistics, this information is reported in Recorded Crime Victims Statistics (RCVS) and Recorded Crime Offenders Statistics (RCOS). Police proactively releases both RCVS and RCOS statistics. These are updated monthly and can be viewed and downloaded from policedata.nz and allow data to be downloaded by any individual.
Statistics published by New Zealand Police are broken down by defined geographic units, not specific addresses. Meshblock is the lowest available disaggregation (and is available in Victimisations Time and Place and Victim Snapshot) although on advice from Statistics New Zealand, these do not contain information about victimisations in dwellings (with the exception of burglary).
Currently, the following reports are available:
• Victimisation Snapshot
• Victimisations (RCVS)
o Victimisations (police stations)
o Victimisations (demographics)
o Victimisations Time and Place
o Unique Victims (police stations)
o Unique Victims (demographics)
• Proceedings (RCOS)
o Proceedings (police stations)
o Proceedings (offender demographics)
o Unique Offenders (police stations)
o Unique Offenders (demographics)
• Demand and Activity
Each section contains a number of charts and tables. You can click on the relevant tabs at the top of the page to go to that section. To select a time period, either drag the ends of the slider or click on the start and end months to enter the dates you want.
Drop-down lists enable you to filter specific categories in the report. You can also click on a bar in a bar chart to select that category, on hold Ctrl while clicking more than one bar to select multiple categories.
Some charts or tables allow you to drill into sub-categories by hovering the mouse cursor over a column heading and clicking on the ‘+’ sign that appears. After making any of the selections the report will take a few seconds to update automatically to what you have selected. To download data, click on a chart or table, the click the Download icon at the bottom right-hand corner of a section, and chose the ‘Data’ option.
