Waka Kotahi’s first transport sector open data framework and survey goes live

In November 2021 we wrote about co-developing NZ’s first transport sector open data framework and we're excited to announce that it's now live and ready for your use!

The framework outlines the voluntary high-level principles, priorities, and actions to help those producing or using transport open data. It is for any organisation in the transport sector that is looking to their improve their open data maturity.

The intent is to align efforts, prevent wheel reinvention, enable prioritisation, and help embed sound governance and risk-mitigation practices within and between organisations and the wider transport community.

It will help us identify people who are interested in transport-related open data. This enables us to improve transport sector open data user engagement—a vital and often-overlooked element of any successful open data programme. It’s also been included in the Transport Evidence Base Strategy to support the delivery of an evidence-based transport system.

A huge thank you to all those who’ve contributed to the framework’s development—this has been a truly collaborative piece of work.

Spread the word about our open data user survey

Having soft-launched our first open data user survey, we’re now rolling it out more widely and would love to hear from anyone who uses Waka Kotahi open data.

The survey will help us generate an ongoing picture of who is using our open data, for what, and how we can improve it.

In turn, it will improve our open data maturity and help us continue to focus on generating real value for Aotearoa.

Fill out the Waka Kotahi open data survey

If you’re keen to tell other people about the survey, please do so by sharing the links we've set up below. There are differerent links to share depending on the channel you're using as we’re interested in where people come across the survey.

As always, we love hearing from people. If you'd like to reach out to us or join our updates list, you can get hold of us at opendata@nzta.govt.nz.
