Organising committee: the Data and Digital Standards Community of Practice

The following profiles include all of the current organising committee members for the community of practice. 


Alastair Kenworthy

Health Information Standards Organisation, Ministry of Health

Alastair Kenworthy is the Chief Standards Advisor for data and digital at the Ministry of Health. Alastair chairs the Ministry’s Health Information Standards Organisation (HISO) and works with district health boards, primary health organisations, health providers and their industry partners to ensure standards are used in the provision of safe and effective services to patients and consumers. HISO’s latest work is an interoperability roadmap to accelerate the move to a fully interoperable health and disability system. Alastair is New Zealand’s representative on SNOMED International, the international collaborative for a global language of health care. Alastair is based in Wellington.


Trevor Himona

Digital Public Service Branch, Department of Internal Affairs

Trevor S. Himona is the new Director, Te Pou Matihiko of the Digital Public Service Branch.

He joins us from Archives New Zealand Te Rua Mahara o te Kāwanatanga where he advised the Chief Archivist and senior management about strengthening Māori-Crown relationships. He has also held senior roles at Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga and other government agencies. With his advanced skills and expertise in te reo Māori me ōna tikanga and national networks Trevor will support the Chief Executive, as the Government Chief Digital Officer and the Digital Public Service Branch to develop proactive, meaningful and
enduring relationships with our Treaty partners.

John Scott

Corporate Services, Clutha District Council

John Scott is the Group Manager Corporate Services at Clutha District Council for the past 4 years. He has a strong background in audit, finance, risk and business services. In his role as the Group Manager Corporate Services, John is responsible for the overall management of the Council’s corporate services functions ensuring quality, timely advice, and service and outcomes are delivered to elected members, officers and the public. He looks after finance, governance support, information systems, and library services functions.

John has held various senior leadership roles, such as being a Director. He has both private and public sector experience in New Zealand and overseas. John holds an Executive Masters in Public Administration from the Victoria University of Wellington.


Ceara Owen

Standards New Zealand, Ministry of Business Innovation and Employment

Ceara Owen is the Sector Engagement Lead at Standards New Zealand. Ceara takes the lead on Standards NZ’s strategic approach to fostering and maintaining relationships with key sector partners and stakeholders. Standards NZ wants to understand the priorities for the digital and data sector and are focussed on working together with our partners to support solutions for best practice across the sector. We are developing a series of innovations that will allow us to assist NZ to develop standards and standardisation solutions which are accessible and meet the needs of the end user. The strategic approach to working with key sector partners in government will help New Zealand grow and thrive.


Sophie Austin

Data and Standards, Statistics New Zealand 

Sophie is the Senior Advisor for Data and Standards at Statistics New Zealand. Sophie facilitates and leads cross-system work and partnerships, improving data related practises, quality and use across the system. Her focus is to improve consistency in the way the Public Sector collects, organises and manages data.

Sophie has worked in a variety of data-related roles across the Public Sector in New Zealand and in the private sector overseas. She has a keen interest in making connections and working across government. Sophie is based in Wellington but was born and raised in England.


Ritesh Anand

Digital Public Service Branch, Department of Internal Affairs

Ritesh Anand is the Manager Agency Standards and Integration within the Digital Public Service Branch at the Department of Internal Affairs. He has worked in various roles at the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment (latest role at Standards New Zealand) and at Statistics New Zealand. He has a well-developed understanding of general standards development process.

He holds a postgraduate qualification in Physics and professional certifications in Prince2, MSP, and Agile. Ritesh is based in Wellington but born and raised in Fiji and he studied in Pune (India) under the Commonwealth scholarship.
