Hi Graeme

Your email address didn't show up in the comment, so I'm posting the statistic you requested here. You can contact me at robert.hickson@dia.govt.nz if you require more information.

I'm using data from the council elections rather than mayoral elections, although the results are very similar, with only small differences in turnout between mayor and council voting. Note that people who own properties in different regions and are registered as ratepayer electors can vote in more than one council election, so the results below include turnout for both residential and ratepayer voters.

Total electors (contested wards only) for city and district councils combined in 2013 was 2,889,321 and the total voters was 1,203,452, giving a turnout of 42%.

To whom it may concern,

I am trying to find the percentage of people who voted in the 2013 elections for all NZ city councils only not district councils.

I have been going round & round on a number of different govt websites and am unable to find this information.

Would it be possible for you to send me this information please.

Regards,

Graeme O'Brien
